Los Angeles had a gorgeous start of extraordinarily nice weather this past weekend. My best friend and I spent some time with family in Hermosa Beach and took a day trip to Beverly Hills. Being out of freezing New York City was an amazing little escape. Beaching in the winter when NYC is experiencing a snow storm is also one of the nicest feelings in the world. Sorry, NY-ers. Although this week NYC is having beautiful weather. So I obviously brought it back, you’re welcome!
We traveled up north to San Francisco for a few days to visit another bestie. My experience was delightful and S.F. is now in the running for one of my favorite cities out there. Take a look at some pics below because photos do a much better job of explaining than me rambling on about what I did.
I fell during our hike and have a huge bruise and cut on my knee!
An alumni from Breezy’s school also loves wine as much as we do!
Honestly…Breezy, Kim and I stood sat in front of the Painted Ladies for a solid 15 minutes before we decided what type of themed photo was acceptable to upload to Instagram. This photo captures the pure ridiculousness being caught in the moment. Breezy’s Instagram has the photo we chose. 🙂
Brings me back to my childhood… actually I still watch Full House often so it brings me back a few days ago.
Sometimes iPhone pictures don’t come out as good as I hope for <3 Also my phone was dead or not on me for half of this trip so the memories will last much longer than the photos in this case. <3
How many of you can say that you honestly relax? OK, scratch that – how many of you with responsibilities and/or full time job’s can say that you honestly relax?
it’s difficult to do nothing, man!
i find it extremely difficult to disconnect from this insane world of work emails, text messages, Twitter, Instagram, personal emails, phone calls, etc. I’m constantly checking and double checking and crossing t’s and dotting i’s. I’ll go as far as saying that e-mail is one of the worst things that’s ever happened to humanity. It has turned many, including myself into a manic, robotic, psychopath. More psycho than I’ve ever been – just specifically and perfectly in tune with exactly what I hate.
Email is far too professional, not fun, way too proper. not my style.
Disconnecting for awhile can be extremely healthy. But I’ll also say that it’s only healthy during that very short time of the faux disconnect. Because afterwards, coming back to the reality of everyday life and catching up on work that you may have missed can take forever.
It makes life at work so much more difficult when you come back from a relaxing vacation. The feeling of being behind on so many levels sucks. It almost makes the disconnect not worth it. Currently feeling like I need to re-learn what the F is going on in order to incorporate myself back into the reality of work-life again. woof, not fun.
de-stress, de-connect, de-compress. LEARN THESE CHARACTERISTICS. do what you can on every level to not lose them.
a glimpse of my detached moment while in Aruba.
2 minutes later, connects to Wifi, checks email. </3
What’s in my bag blogs always interest me, so I’m sharing some details. Life Looks Better In Black gives a glimpse into some overall big picture thoughts and opinions. As if I don’t share enough, now you can OD! Enjoy or don’t! Xx
–Bag: Mansur Gavriel Tote Black & Blue
– LV Passport Case: essentials, duh.
– 9ft iPhone Charger: because when traveling, and especially in life — that regular length cord just does not cut it!
– Snaaaaacks: betches get hungry, the bar I had in my pantry was Nature Valley Peanut Butter something, ehhhh.
– Reading Material: How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are – I’ve read it before, great book so I’ll read it again. I learn new things every time I pick it up and it feeds my Parisian addiction.
– LV Card Case: no need for a wallet on vacation. Store ID, credit cards, insurance cards, and cash. All the necessities without the extra weight!
– Meds: vitamins and prescriptions, necessities you know.
– Headphones: downloaded the Rosetta Stone app on my phone so I can take my French language course on the go! Great for when you’re bored in the airport. Also feeding aforementioned Parisian addiction.
– Evian Facial Spray: miracle worker for flights, keeps you feeling refreshed!
– Sunglasses: I usually travel with 2 pairs because of the sheer fact that I’ll likely lose a pair in the ocean. Or both. Yikes! Celine’s and Tom Ford this time, wish me luck. 😉
– Moleskine Journal: I write a lot. I always have something that I want to remember but will likely forget. Also has a hardcopy calendar. I keep my Le Pen with it because I love the way it writes and you never know when you’ll need a well writing black pen.
– LV Makeup Bag: great for storing all makeup and beauty products. Also doubles as a clutch for a dinner/night out at your destination.
– Contents: all my fave products!
Le Miuix Hydrating Face Moisturizer, Byredo Gypsy Water, rms beauty oil, Lucas Papaw Ointment, Aruba Aloe, Chanel Sublimage La Creme Yeux, the lip slip by sara happ, Avène Cold Cream lip balm, MAKE eye makeup remover, Crest 3D White toothpaste, shampoo & conditioner (samples).
– Makeup: Chanel and NARS everything! (More to follow…).
If you really know me, you’re likely shocked to see I’m moderately organized and not causing a scene at the airport. I’m extremely relieved to escape the frigid temps and icy, slushy, wet sidewalks of NYC. #OneHappyIsland here I come!
P.S. Wrote this while on Wifi from the air, so there’s no links to products. If you have a question, ask me! 😘
2014 was a year of major change for me. Physically, emotionally, locally, globally – all changes. Changed my job field and location. Changed my residence (more times than I’d like to admit — ok, fine – 4!). My family changed, I lost my dad. Changed my relationship status (again, more times than I’d like to admit, but actually won’t admit). I’ve embraced a lot of change and I’m a firm believer in working toward the life you want. Dream chasing is a great way to do that, short term goal setting is a productive way to do that. There’s always a positive vibe in change, although maybe not right away. It comes. Time heals. Time takes time. Keep it in today.
Can’t wait for whatever changes may come this year. I’m not setting resolutions, I’m continuing to goal set and slowly move toward whatever I want and whatever comes my way. Looking forward to some stability in 2015. There’s no rules in 2015… so start your change or your stability whenever you see fit. <3 Keep it on lock.
*I never learned French though, it’s on my goal list for this year. Already have the Rosetta Stone.
TGE – Thanksgiving Eve. Also known as “Thanks but Get me the Fuck Out of Here Eve.” Biggest party night of the year – great. Because I love oh so much to see all of the ratchets from my town in one single bar on one single night all pretending to love each other and “catch up” since the last time they did this a few weeks ago. UGH – sounds more like social suicide if you ask me.
Not that I’m trying to be a downer to a night of debauchery – because trust me – I will partake. I will be at the bar – I will go out with my friends. I will socialize with my (ex?) (sort of together?) (what are we?) (does anybody know because I sure don’t!) boy and my other ex and my other one too…OOPS. I will probably say hi to people who I don’t like (against my will), just because I am “polite.” Not a fan of the awkwardness though – I’ll totally avoid a person and not speak to him/her just so I don’t have to deal with awkward conversations. Just saying – If we aren’t friends, we don’t need to have a fake catch up session for less than one minute while I pass by in a cramped hallway. However – If I do care about you and we haven’t seen each other in a very long time – I will 100% have a QUICK catch up session with you, exchange phone #’s if we don’t already have them & I WILL FREAKING TEXT OR CALL YOU. AT A LATER DATE.Not on TGE at a bar with a million drunk people.
#ratchetbitches. You know the type. The girls who are probably younger than you – or around your age – could be older, which is REALLY very unfortunate for them — eek. They’re wearing a mini dress that you’d probably wear to a DJ Theo show in Atlantic City because – they’re not the type of girls that go to Vegas. You would never wear what’s in their closet to begin with. But they’re probably going to be wearing sparkles. Too short for the eye to even gather what is going on. They’ll also be wearing extremely high heels – probably sparkles. Oh and the major kicker is that they cannot walk in their heels either. And it’s not like the, “oh I just got this brand new pair of Brian Atwood’s that I haven’t quite gotten used to wearing yet.” A better example is walking like it’s their 2nd-3rd day as little toddler baby. Clinging to anything and everything including YOU and your boyfriend while thinking they look sexy as F in their brand spankin’ new Forever21 pumps. Which are slicing the backs of their heels with every step, they’re already bleeding. Those shoes are coming off ASAP! OH – they also spilled half of their CRANBERRY x well vodka on your shoulder because OBVI they drink cranberry vodka and obvi they don’t know how to walk with a drink in hand. Silly girls – watch out for these! (I’ve been this girl once or twice ;o) especially the falling type – shhhh!)
Whatever – I guess this is just like any other night out at the bar. Typical. But that is my main point here – like I do not see the big deal of TGE. Why does everyone care? I get it – everybody is off tomorrow for Thanksgiving so let’s all get super fucked up and eat turkey and mashed potatoes hungover the next day. BUT really?! I don’t see the glamour of TGE. I’ve never, ever liked doing anything that hoards of people think is “COOL.” Because if that many people think it’s cool – then it’s clearly already seen its day and it’s on its way out the door. It’s no longer cool to do the cool thing if everybody else is doing it. That means you’re normal. OVER normal. So over it. I mean – I get drunk on a Wednesday MTWTFSS anyway – what’s TGE going to do for me? Except make me wait about 3 minutes longer to order my drink from the bar.
So for all the Thanksgiving Eve lovers – get over yourself. Get over this “party holiday” and come back to reality. Start partying on weeknights on the regular – it will definitely make you feel better about yourself. Stop pretending like you give a shit about any of the random re-connects from high school that you’re going to see/fuck. And really – since you’re obviously going to go out anyway despite what me or anybody else tells you – suck it up – get really drunk (try to remember your night) or hopefully forget if it was that bad – don’t cry – smile at all of your haters – and live on your TGE like any other fucking Wednesday night. Let others look at you for all the right reasons – like because they’re jealous of your adorable dress & are wondering how you’re still standing up straight and are acting so poised after your 4th or 9th cocktail. It’s because your a BETCH. Get it girl, get ittttttttt.
No-Shave November is the equivalent to the “basic bitch” of being a dude.
Maybe it’s the basic betch of months…
No-Shave November has become so popular in recent years that it’s completely and utterly “basic bro.”
Some men do it for “the cause,” but most guys just do it because they think it’s cool, which is lame, IMO. Pay up or give up. Put up or shut up. Beard up, bro’s.
If you are in fact a bearded man 365, you typically despise this yearly tradition because it takes away from your hard manly work of maintaining your rad beard every day of the year. For the men who can’t grow beards, this is a funny month for you because yours look so scarce. Mostly men just look a little bit dirtier all around and the competition becomes steep among friends.
Through trying to prove your manhood to each other, you in turn become very “chick-like”… doing things like comparing beard thickness and length to other dudes, sometimes for $, and very concerned about your overall appearance. You post selfies with your new beard. You even start drinking PSL’s – seems pretty freakin’ basic to this betch. Get your shit together men, no shave November or not – keep on smiling your bearded face and be extra nice to the females in your life.
Because you have all now entered the real-time role of:
Welcome, basics. Get after it. And always remember, “If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis!”
The beginning of summer is my favorite time of the year, it makes me automatically happier. Vitamin D is in abundance and people are smiling a lot more.
I’ve never been a believer in the whole “summer lasts between Memorial Day & Labor Day” idea. I’m usually at the beach far before MDW and far later than LDW. I also don’t believe in wearing white between the two. I wear my whites all year round! I guess I’m excited to see all the basic betches begin to break out their white clothes after this weekend – it’s about time.
The future looks tan! Wear white all weekend people. Do it!
Getting in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day & month, I’ve compiled a list of all green things that I’m currently obsessed with. Hope you enjoy and get a little green love spirit in your life during the month of March.
1. Mint Leaves in Water
Adds a little bit of flavor to your typically boring water bottle & has great health benefits as well. Great for digestive tract and for IBS sufferers (me), great for skin, nausea, muscle pain and fresh breath!
2. Frozen Green Grapes
Sweet little snack that can help with diet cravings – pretend it’s like ice cream or something?!
3. Essie Nail Polish: Mojito Madness
Essie has a few really chic greens for the month of March. Mint Candy Apple is another fave!
4. Green Beans
Easy & healthy dinner option.
5. Green Sandals
These are cute from Nine West would be cute with a white or ivory sun dress and a camel colored bag during the summer.
6. Green Eggs
Scrambled eggs & avocado – one of my favorite breakfasts! No carbs, protein and healthy fats. Add S&P, a little hot sauce or Sriracha and you’re golden.
7. iMessage Icon
Doesn’t this make you kind of happy?
8. Cucumber Eye Wraps
Help out those tired eyes – I’ve done these a few times and I don’t exactly see how it helps but it makes me feel pretty good while I’m doing so and gives a sense of relaxation. I’m about that life.
9. Green Sour Patch Kids
Green is overall a great flavored kid! I’m obsessed with SPK – it’s bad.
10. Green hair!! Kidding – but this Davines Shampoo & Conditioner combination is fantastic!
Infused with Spinach Extract and great for damaged hair! I use this and highly recommend. Smells fantastic too!
11. Eminence Stone Crop Gel Wash
Another organic product I use daily – Eminence is amazing – great for sensitive skin and all natural. Leaves skin super smooth & soft.
Encouragement. This week leads up to Valentine’s Day on February 14th! <3 A fabulous, happy & thoughtful way for me to care about myself just a little bit more, if that’s possible. & for you to do the same.
No date on VDAY? Have a date on VDAY that you maybe don’t want? Have a date that you actually love (lol) but don’t want to do the typical dinner & a movie? (This is a reach, but I felt like I had to include it so to not disclude the lovebirds that I can somewhat stand). Are you already starting to vomit in your mouth from all of the Instagram pics your friends are going to upload of their roses from their AMAZING!!!!! boyfriends?! Are you already overjoyed by the really sweet dark chocolate dipped strawberries your friend made for her loving & loyal boyfriend? That you secretly wish she fucking made for you so you could be eating them?! I KNOW, right?
So stop thinking that & go do something for yourself & the people around you that you really LOVE. Your besties! Do something fun – fall in love with yogurt! Also, don’t check Instagram all day on Friday, OK?!
Spoil yourself! And your friends by making some delicious cupcakes! Who doesn’t LOVE cupcakes? I mean…. if you don’t love cupcakes, we can’t be friends. Oh, and cookies. & chocolate. Sweet tooth ALERT! Go to a local chocolatier & pick up some above-average chocolates & candies that are just far more meaningful than Russel Stover’s heart-shaped boxes that are lining the aisles of CVS’s & Rite Aid’s since the day after Christmas. Favorites: Bon Bon’s Chocolatier in Huntington, NY; Love Lane Sweet Shoppe in Mattituck, NY; Lazar’s in Roslyn, NY; Sayville Chocolatier in Sayville, NY. Chocolate shoppes make me smile on the inside and make me fat on the outside– Oops! Some creative, sweet treats below. I LOVE the dagger – how classic!
I guess make these cookies ^ say adorable/sweet things if you want. Or at least funny, instead of cynical (my preferred).
Maybe plan a fun evening of games with friends – grab a couple bottles of wine, a funny movie & your favorite snacks and stay in! Or cook! Making pizza is a fabulous VDay idea – great comfort food and it’s super easy! Grab dough from a local pizzeria, can of sauce (add garlic, parsley, onion, oregano) whatever you want really, mozzarella & parmesan cheese, whatever toppings, place on pizza stone (in the shape of a heart if you must!), & finally bake in the oven! Hundreds of recipes here. Healthy version of DIY pizza on Alix’s blog!
Go out to a bar with your friends – there are plenty of other people (singles or not) that will realize it’s any old Friday night and that’s a real enough reason to celebrate! Be sure to avoid restaurant/bar’s and specifically nice restaurants as they will be SWARMING with couples that will make you want to vomit on the spot. Townie bars may also give you potentially undiscovered STD’s, so beware of that as well.
Get active! Don’t want to spend your Friday evening gorging on food or cocktails? Hit the gym earlier in the day so you don’t feel as bad about it — OR — head to Air Trampoline Sports. They’re open late on Friday’s & Saturday’s – would def be a fun thing to do on a Monday or Tuesday night in my opinion BUT definitely enjoyable with a few friends nonetheless.
Want to go out and meet people? Are you itching to go on a date? Or a sort-of date where you really get to hang out with your own best friends? Consider joining & going on a Grouper! The concept is amazing — friends (guy groups & girl groups) that I know have said it’s been a blast. Have yet to try and will post about it when I do.
Awesome Valentine’s Day gifts from DailyCandy. Get me some of these and I would maybe actually BE your Valentine. JK.
