Rubber Mask

“K-Beauty” or Korean Beauty is a huge part of the beauty movement right now.

Pure, porcelain, clean skin is the ideal image and that’s exactly what I want. No matter the tone, I think that’s what all skin types want. K-beauty offers skincare that cleanses, targets super specific problem areas and protects. Also all about hydration!

So I purchased some chic new beauty products from Glow Recipe because I’ve been hearing so much about how awesome these specific skincare regimes are. #Rubbermasking has been trending and how great it makes your skin feel immediately.

unnamed-22

Today on my lunch break (highly productive!), I met with Co-Founder of Glow Recipe, Christine Chang, to hear more about the new Charcoal Rubber Modeling Mask that Lindsay, a skincare brand they carry just launched. We sampled the mask and talked about what type of K skincare I should be using for my combination/oily T-Zone skin. Being that I’m constantly on the search for new products and things that actually work – I’m 100% down with the K beauty kick and I’m not getting off yet!

The Details

The rubbermask comes in a DIY, but ready-to-go Cup-A-Noodles style package. This time I used the Collagen Modeling Mask.

unnamed-11

“Just add water,” but literally.

unnamed-13

Add a little less than to the line it suggests and start mixing with the provided spatula until it becomes a cake mix-like texture.

unnamed-14

Then begin to spread it on your face, THICK. Don’t be afraid, you want to use as much of it as you can – like all of it. Avoid the eye area. And the hair area / eyebrows / and mouth and nose. There are detailed instructions provided so follow them!

unnamed-15

unnamed-16

Let sit for 15 minutes or so and you’ll see the mask starting to lift at the edges. The thicker you apply, the easier it is to take off! You’ll literally be able to peel the entire mask off in one easy piece if its thick enough. Maybe a few pieces, but hardly any mess at all. After a few minutes, the mask actually turns super cold which I thought was interesting.

Christine said it perfectly, that it’s “very satisfying!” The best part about these masks are that there are many different types! I have another one to try out, can’t wait to continue on with my K-Beauty regime. I left Glow Recipe today with a bunch of samples too, which I can’t wait to try out!

The Price

$6 each – OMG, yes. That inexpensive! Sick!! Glow Recipe offers free shipping with orders over $50, so you should probably do that because who wants to pay for shipping?

Glossier Review

So I’m a skincare junkie. I’m also a shopping addict. I have OCD — (likely). When I see something I want and it’s easily attainable – it automatically becomes a MUST HAVE.

FullSizeRender 2

Since Into the Gloss blog founder Emily Weiss launched Glossier – I knew it had to be amazing and I knew I needed it immediately. Glossier’s website says it best:

“How many products do you own, and how many do you actually use? We are creating a highly edited collection of modern staples reflecting how you get ready every day, starting with the most important thing—a perfectly primed canvas (your skin!)—and working our way up.”

“Our formulas are designed to live with you, not on you, and enhance what you already have. They are meant to be touched, smooshed, traveled with, cherished, and shared until their packages are crinkly and dirty and can literally give no more.”

I purchased the starter kit and the packaging it arrives in is super cute / it also comes with stickers which I LOVE. I think this is a great starter pack for people who use a lot of products and are fed up with it. Kind of lightens your load in a sense…

My Review’s Below…

Balm Dot Com: Skin salve. This is nice. It’s high high high in the running against Lucas Papaw Ointment which I use regularly. It can be used basically anywhere. GREAT for lips! Highly recommend if you have chapped lips and you are constantly in the lip balm / chapstick phenomena of constantly reapplying and you kind of think it doesn’t help you but makes you use it more. You can put it on dry cuticles. Dry elbows/knees/palms. Anywhere that needs a little extra lovin’!
Priming Moisturizer: Warning! Comes out of tube, very quickly. Positive: the tubing is very squeezable – does that make sense?! It’s like – do you know how it’s sometimes difficult to get the last of a product out of it’s tube? Yeah, well – this solves that problem. The packaging is super easy to get the cream out of. It’s a light-ish cream and its unscented which I love. It’s build-able – I’m not exactly sure what that means. It’s used as a nice makeup primer and I like it for that as well. It’s a great combination of your moisturizer and your primer. Put on after cleansing and before makeup. Recommend.
Perfecting Skin Tint: Are you a makeup girl or a non-makeup girl? If your answer is non-makeup girl, this is FOR YOU!!! It is extremely thin coverage. I don’t even want to say coverage because it does not cover you. It makes you feel as if you’re wearing nothing! Which is MAJOR. It’s definitely not for blemish coverage. HOWEVER, if you mix some of this in to your typical foundation, it will thin it out and give you a nice, dewy, clean finish. I got the medium color – which I think most people will fall in – unless you’re extremely pale or have much darker pigmentation. Highly suggest mixing it in with your daily foundation or BB/CC cream if you use one. Recommend if you have nice skin and if you just want to even out skin tone and wear something. Do not recommend for trying to cover up much of anything. Great mixer though for sure. 😉
Soothing Face Mist: A major mist fan, I always carry a mist with me, I always keep a mist in/on my desk at work, always on my vanity at home, and one in my carry-all travel bag. Basically, I live the nomadic life – at my apartment in Brooklyn, on Long Island at my best friends’ homes, and I travel a lot on the weekends. I’ve been enjoying the rosewater mist they make. Look for a future blog about rosewater mists because they’ve been a natural obsession of mine. Also Kim Kardashian West is obsessed with rosewater too, so OBV.

Trust Issues

There is one person in this world that I trust

…her name is Zoraida and she’s my eyebrow specialist. Yeah, it’s like that. She’s amazing at what she does and there is no other person that I would allow anywhere near my eyebrows. She does not wax or thread, but tweezes (preferred method) and it’s genius. She’s the best. I’m still very confused why people go to a “nail salon” to get their eyebrows done. Doesn’t make sense – & unfortunately – it’s not a one-stop-shop. Nail places are for manicures. Eyebrow shaping is for eyebrow specialists. DUH.

Whatever – if you’re interested, message me & I’ll give you her contact if I like you enough. Eyebrow obsession has become so popular lately (due to the likes of SUPERMODEL Cara Delevingne & her infamous brows) that even dudes are talking about it… this is shocking to me. One of my guy friends asked me, “What’s up with that girl’s eyebrows? Why do they have 90 degree angles? Why do girls want that? Looks awful.” So yeah, even dudes care when your brows suck…I’ve been curating mine since the ripe age of 13. Eyebrows are the most important feature on a face because they totally frame it – they shape a face and they are one of the first features noticed on people. With the perfect amount of pencil and shading with a brow highlighter, you can transform your entire look. Eyebrow tutorial to follow.

Au Naturel

All natural. Hashtag no filter. Hashtag no makeup. Hashtag natural beauty. Makeup free Monday. Beauty from within. Fucking liars. In fact, I’ll go as far to say that nothing in a daily beauty look is really natural. All natural is the result of serious practice. Hard labor.

It takes one to know one. It takes work. If you’re not working now, I will LOVE to laugh at your gross lines and wrinkles 20 4 years from now. The best care is preventative care. Not reactive care.

Don’t wear too much makeup or try too hard. Wear makeup that makes it look like you’re not wearing makeup. Try to avoid the intense foundation, especially if you can see it. Use something so sheer or lighten it up by mixing with a moisturizer to make your own Bb cream. Avoid too many colors and avoid too major of bronzer. Mascara works wonders (Chanel Le Volume, trust).

Don’t blow dry your hair everyday and don’t color it so often. I’ve been victim to both of those things with overly drying results. Change takes time but you can change your hair [look and feeling] with a few simple regimen changes (like a hair mask).

Keep nails short and well manicured. This does not necessarily mean having polish on your manicured nails. I try to stick to nude tones, red tones or black tones – but in reality, my polish color choices have evolved over time and I still pick a bright crazy color on occasion. When you do have polish, keep it clean. I would rather see unpolished nails than ratchet half-polished or a 3 week old mani. Keep them clean as well, dirty nails are for 5 year old boys.

Take care of your hands, lotion up! And when you’re moisturizing your face, start from the bottom up! Moisturize the skin on your chest (décolletage) and neck. Move from the center of your face outward, in upward sweeping motions. Pull the skin upward, gravity pulls it down all day. Try to reverse effects of aging this way. Who knows if it actually works but — better than downward motion! AmIrite?

Under eye cream is a MUST. Start this now. Before you need it. So that when you really need it, you won’t really need it that bad.

The au natural look will get more and more chic with age. And it gets more and more easy with regard to time and confidence. You’ll feel more confident in your skin and going natural when you wear less makeup to begin with. Work hard.

No Shave

No-Shave November is the equivalent to the “basic bitch” of being a dude.

Maybe it’s the basic betch of months…

pc5eog7Bi

No-Shave November has become so popular in recent years that it’s completely and utterly “basic bro.”

Some men do it for “the cause,” but most guys just do it because they think it’s cool, which is lame, IMO. Pay up or give up. Put up or shut up. Beard up, bro’s.

If you are in fact a bearded man 365, you typically despise this yearly tradition because it takes away from your hard manly work of maintaining your rad beard every day of the year. For the men who can’t grow beards, this is a funny month for you because yours look so scarce. Mostly men just look a little bit dirtier all around and the competition becomes steep among friends.

Through trying to prove your manhood to each other,  you in turn become very “chick-like”… doing things like comparing beard thickness and length to other dudes, sometimes for $, and very concerned about your overall appearance. You post selfies with your new beard. You even start drinking PSL’s seems pretty freakin’ basic to this betch. Get your shit together men, no shave November or not – keep on smiling your bearded face and be extra nice to the females in your life.

Because you have all now entered the real-time role of:

 “basic betch-dom.”

Welcome, basics. Get after it. And always remember, “If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis!”

Crap from Your Kitchen…

Summer is here & bare feet are a guarantee for every weekend.

Bare feet, sand from the beach, extra sun & ocean saltwater all contribute to that dry skin you get all overrrrr.

Want a really great spa treatment for your dry legs/feet/elbows/arms? Don’t want to go to the spa? Don’t even want to leave your air conditioned place to get a moisturizer that hardly even helps? Being in your 20’s is all about faking it ’til you’re making it. So – here’s my “fake it” to help you look like ya “made it.”

Look no further. Byrdy DIY comin’ atcha!

Ingredients:

unnamed-1
-Organic Pure Cane Sugar (or whatever sugar you keep in your kitchen will do)
-Olive Oil (whatever type of oil you like (coconut) but olive oil is commonly kept)

unnamed-2

unnamed-4

Pour oil on to the sugar. It will easily begin to fold together.

unnamed-5

Mix together in a bowl with your hands (or a spoon) and create your oily textured scrub. Simple as that.

unnamed-6
It will turn into a rich sugar scrub that’s good enough to eat… but really.

unnamed-7

Apply/slather all over areas that you’d like to exfoliate & moisturize (legs, feet, knees, arms elbows…)*

*A little bit goes a LONG way.

If you have a facial exfoliation/moisturizer in mind feel free to add the following: essential oils, fresh squeezed lemons, blueberries or any berries for antioxidants, oatmeal… some more simple as pie recipes. Like you don’t need measurements either – just mix whatever you have and hope for the best.

Tomatoes (rich in lycopene) & sugar are great for protecting against UV rays from the sun.

Olive oil, coffee grinds & organic honey is an easy one I’ve done as well. This smells amazing & works well, especially in the morning! It can get rather messy – use it in the shower. (if you’re not into DIY but love a coffee scrub, frank body has got it goin’ on!).

Oats, honey & olive oil is a great mixture for super dry skin as well. Very moisturizing.

So basically, get in your kitchen, find some random ingredients that you may need and make your scrub. Cheap (basically free) and easy! You can use it 2-3x per week.

WANTED!

“You’re a shopper. You shop. You’re good at that. You’re meant for that. This applies both to shoes & men…don’t give up and buy shitty shit because you need it temporarily. Wait for the quality. Shop around. Pick things up and put them back. Return if necessary. Keep shopping. You’ll fall in love eventually.”

LOL

Take a look at what Brad Pitt has to say on Angelina – mostly the ending part. I don’t know if I really like thisbut I kind of like it. I don’t necessarily believe that a man has the power to completely change a woman. Or that she is a total reflection of him – but when it’s of a positive image, positive things can happen. And I like that. The ending is what makes it amazing.

bradpitt

Until then, I won’t go chasin’ waterfalls –

I’ll be doin’ me, right over here. xo

This is an endless list. I don’t know why I’m posting it today. I wrote this 3 months ago. #latergram.

Curiosity Killed the Cat

Curiosity Killed the Cat

Why are there so many cat metaphors? Ughh…

This is a Life Lesson for Everyone…

Some people DON’T love you, they don’t even care about you. They just want to stay connected to you – they love the benefits.

So, they do the minimal. A little phone call here and there. A text. Just checking/thinking about you (ppffftttt!).

WHAT THEY ARE REALLY DOING IS: MAINTAINING A CONNECTION, SO WHEN THEY NEED YOU – THEY STILL HAVE A WAY IN.

Reading people gets easier with age. Be careful of the curious and stay close and true to those true few.

Weekday Manicure: Rad Nails

“OMG I really really want a tattoo!” – dumb girls, everywhere…

And here I am again, solving your white girl problems. 😉

So here’s a cute way you can get a new tattoo without actually getting one. Fucking genius. obv.

I hear betches say things like this all the time…

“I want another tattooooooo!” “Let’s get matching tattoos!” “I want a lotus flower tattoo.” “I want a tattoo but I don’t know what I’d get.” OK, boring…

Here’s your answer – fake fucking tattoos, ummm duh.

IMG_0019

Cuticle tattoos. How interesting.

I saw these bad boys from Rad Nails on Twitter (probs?) and had to try them out. They make 3 types of cuticle tattoos so I naturally purchased all 3 styles. Brought them to my manicurist Cindy to put them on me because I can’t do this shit on my own.

IMG_0191

UMMM…. these are much more difficult than we both thought! After several attempts, Cindy just got frustrated, telling me that these were “weird” and not like the ones from China that she uses. I, of course had NO freakin’ time to be getting this detailed of a manicure to begin with…

So – we agreed she forcefully told me that she was just going to paint the exact replicas on my nails and call it a day. The design is cute – though not my style at all. Maybe I’ll try Rad Nails again one day when I have a LOT of time and patience.
