Supercrown Coffee Roasters

A single succulent in a small terra cotta pot sits on each of the hi-top tables. There are two thin, windowsill bar tops and a largely open, clean space with brick walls. The setting is very urban industrial with contemporary vibes. The skylight up above let’s in a beautiful amount of light (I’m obsessed with natural light).  It’s a mainly black and white aesthetic with the main way-back wall being a shade of Pepto Bismol pink. I had a Pepto Bismol pink wall in my college townhouse so I felt some weird connection to this room and wall. There’s an open back room with the huge coffee grinder machine (?), which I have no idea what it actually is… troubling. On the barista counter, the coffee grinder is bright pink and the espresso machine is a bright cobalt blue that reminds me of a car from the 1950s.

That unknown machine is loud in the back – sounds and looks like an industrial size vacuum. Whatever it is… It smells awesome in here. I can’t quite focus on anything aside from that noise so maybe this is not the best for concentrating or bringing your laptop. Although a man across from me is doing that.

I’m sipping on a coffee milkshake, which was $6. I would have paid $10 for it because it’s really good. But that’s just because I’m feeling generous today. Milkshakes are my favorite drink too. They serve bialy’s from Roberta’s (a local restaurant in Bushwick that’s super hyped for their pizzas).

Currently in Bushwick – where the cool kids live. Supercrown is probably a really cool date place if you’re the type that dates during the hours of 7AM-7PM. But weekends are an option. And coffee is always good. Back to date night, avoiding alcohol on dates is interesting and challenging so this could be a cool option. Although I’m pretty sure they make alcoholic coffee beverages – which could be a bonus. Lots of cute people are waking by the storefront. And in and out as I’m sitting here. There’s a guy at the bar right now that looks like a mix between Justin Timberlake and the oldest bully brother from from Home Alone. “Buzz your girlfriend, woof.” Weird mix – I know. That’s Brooklyn for ya.

FYI – It’s 11:15am – why did I just drink a milkshake?

Bushwick, Brooklyn #NewHood

We just moved in to a new neighborhood in Brooklyn – and so far really loving it. Everyone says Bushwick is “up & coming” which, (for those of you who don’t know) means it used to be very ghetto, has gotten much nicer, but still has a long way to go. I mildly agree but love the character and charm of this very diverse and artsy neighborhood.  The streets are spewed with massive pieces of graffiti art on buildings and garages. As I’m obsessed with taking photos of everything, The Bushwick Collective & other nearby pieces will occasionally make an appearance here or on my Snapchat @ashleybyrdy

Some of my favorite pieces around the neighborhood…

Cabana Southampton

Strolling through Southampton last Monday, I came across an interesting and beautifully curated pop-up shop, Cabana Southampton. The “Come Sale Away” sign drew me in….

A Peek Inside Cabana Southampton

Store owner Julie Heller explained that the store is inspired by vintage pieces. There are vintage books, gorgeous artwork, vintage Chanel handbags & jewelry, candles and stationary that are creatively detailed.

Based in NYC as ERA|LUXE, a cult-fave luxury vintage store, Heller decided to bring the shop to where she summer’s in Southampton, NY. The vintage does so well that she wanted to bring in new products from different designer brands that weren’t well represented on the east end of Long Island/Hampton’s.

Everything inside makes everyone that enters want to purchase something – I guarantee there is at least one piece in this store that will “speak to you.” There are TONS of awesome gifts in this shop – things that you’d “never buy for yourself” but you actually will because that’s how fab it is.

The Cabana Southampton Instagram is loaded with beautifully curated photos of products sold in the shop and gorgeous Hampton’s beachfront views – what’s not to love / “like”? The ever popular HASHTAG HAMPTONS gear is placed around the store between books, scented candles & sprays, accessories and perfectly placed artwork/paintings.

They’re staying open until mid-September so I suggest checking it out if you’re on the east end for any of the remaining weeks of summer! There’s an online shop for Cabana Southampton as well so if your weekends are already full of day trips & cocktails for the remainder of the summer, you can still check out all the goods.

Things I’m Into

Hope everyone is having a great week – it’s almost FRIDAY! Below are some of the random things I’ve been into lately.

I really enjoy when old things that are typically ugly are turned into beautiful pieces of art. This building in Beacon, NY is covered in different street art pieces which totally beautifies the otherwise dull and drab space. ❤

Gotta love a great food photo and recommendation! Brunch a few weeks ago with some of my girlfriends at Anella in Brooklyn (Greenpoint). Fried Chicken Biscuit is pictured below with a really delicious cole slaw. They have some great specialty cocktails as well. We enjoyed a lavender infused sparkling white wine.

Cool for a DIY project – think table names or numbers at weddings?!?! Different license plate word combinations. Saw these at a little shop in Venice Beach, CA.  Also I have no idea how to DIY this – so if you’re actually interested in doing that – go on Pinterest (also follow me on Pinterest – I sometimes randomly pin things when I’m bored like twice a year)!!!

I’m also posting this fantastically delicious looking DOUBLE! (yes, double – woof) cheeseburger from In & Out. I mean because it was my first one and doesn’t everybody post a picture of their food when they go to In & Out Burger? Not sure why because I wouldn’t typically photograph my fast food – I’d likely just eat it in the car on the way to doing something. Isn’t that why you bought it? Because it’s fast? Whatever. Feast your eyes.

Lastly, I’m sort of obsessed with this photo below of a random bro on the Venice Beach boardwalk. No, I do not know this bro, but I do know that he was doing the exact same thing I was doing. Walking around by himself. Except he wasn’t taking creepy pictures of me from afar. OK weird, Ash!

Billyburg to Soho

It’s Monday morning – I’m up! I’m up early actually, showered, getting ready to go. I’m on time, this is refreshing!

Until I look at the time and oh, okay. I’m running late now. I missed the bus I planned on taking – so – UGH my heels are so high – by the time I walk to the subway – I’ll want to cry. OK, next idea. Jump in my car – drive to the subway. No way can I drive into Manhattan (nowhere to park).

Parallel parking time! 🙂 Hit the car parked behind me – love tap really…. whatever it’s fine.  A beep – Fuck. there is somebody in the car. Caught. Hopefully it’s not bad. It’s not. I apologize and run away down the stairs to, “the next L train its now arriving on the…Manhattan bound track.”

Great… run! Swipe MetroCard – “Insufficient Fare.” Ugh – Monday – long lines of course. Add myself to the shortest line. This line is short because the machine isn’t working, obviously. Next line – my credit card can not be read. Would I like to try again? Sure. My debit card, my other credit card, my Amex, my boss’ credit card. None of these can be read. It’s not the cards of course, it’s the machine. Again? Really? That other person’s card worked on it though.

The 2nd Manhattan-bound L train is now departing. Beep. Beep. Beep. As people keep filing through the turnstile and loading into the cramped L train. I get off the Metrocard line. I have no cash because I spent it all at the cash only restaurant I got a really great burger at yesterday. Great. Start to have a mild panic attack as the train pulls out of the station. Then I remember I have approximately 2 lbs. of change a the bottom of my handbag. Back to the MetroCard refill line, one more time. Another L train approaches. Somehow the line goes quickly. I grab my ticket and run through the turnstile. Get on the train. Crammed in. Happy I made it but so unhappy at the same time.

Smelly armpit man puts it right in my face as he grabs on to the bar right above my head. I am being touched in various places I do not wish to be touched in. I’m not pleased. I’m counting down the seconds until I get to Union Square to break free from this prison into the insanity that is exiting L train to catch the next connecting train.

Hopefully my dress isn’t too short so people behind me can’t see my ass as I walk up the stairs. Hopefully they won’t look. But they will look. I would look.

OK, thank god that’s over with.

Walking over to the next train, pass the screaming Jesus lady at Union Square. Right on schedule. She’s screaming at all of us, but nobody in particular about following the lord. I wonder if anyone follows her advice, talks to her or tells her to pipe down?

OK, next train. It’s on time thank god and I’m not waiting at all for it. There’s a really cute guy in this subway. And a really pretty 20 something female with gorgeous red lipstick and a weird haircut that I’m starting to vibe with. Finally get to my stop and stand in line to exit the subway to the street. And a blast of steaming air blows into my face. Ugh – the steam… ew. OK – hey Happy Monday. First day of a short week. And it’s just gonna be a great one, I can feel it.

The Brooklyn Museum just closed a particularly awesome exhibit on March 1st titled, “Killer Heels.” I viewed last week and had a great time wandering the museum by myself with my iPhone gawking over all of these beautiful versions of heels from past and present. Video describing the exhibit is below.

Analyze that.

Breakfasts recently. 1 egg yolk, 2 egg whites, 1/4 cup sparkling water, 1/2 cup oatmeal, cinnamon (LOTS!) cook on low heat in a small pan with cooking spray. Serve with sugar free maple syrup. Yum diet food ❤
