Things I’m Into: Feel-Good Edition

Think about things that make you smile today.

This light / neon / crystal image is my new iPhone lock screen background because I really enjoy looking at it. Colors are dope.

Next up is a ridiculous Snapchat. Doing things that make you feel pretty. Feel-good things are not always the same as wellness things, but whatever. I got my hair colored yesterday…(great color = really good vibes) however (toxins from hair coloring = bad vibes) but I mean… I haven’t done it in about 1 year and I needed it and I’m making up excuses for myself BUT I just wanted it. And it makes me feel good. And this puppy filter on Snapchat is putting me over the edge– how cute is everyone as a dog? OMG. Plus follow me on Snap if you want a peek of all the weird shit I do on the daily. @ashleybyrdy, hi!

Next up: Thank you. Stop saying sorry if you want to say thank you. I saw this image below on a blog post here and totally had to share it with you guys. Putting good vibes out into the universe with a  positive message instead of a negative one. I’m about this.

Bathing suit season is approaching and I for one am super excited and looking forward to being in a bathing suit and on the beach all summer long. I came across this pretty rad swimsuit website, Cocodune – that allows you to order suits at no charge, have them shipped to your house to try-on and then ship back whatever you don’t want. At no fee. Unless you keep something, then your credit card gets charged. It’s genius, especially if you have no time to swimsuit shop or you’re self conscious about it. Whatever the case may be, I’m trying it out this week so I’ll let you guys know what I think in a later post.

Keep it feel-good, guys…keep it feeling really good!

11 Reasons Why Life Looks Better in Black

11 because it’s a skinny looking number

1. Black looks good on everybody. It’s slimming…listen to Christian Dior.

2. Black is chic. I’ve never seen black look bad unless it’s faded, then questionable.

3. Black will never go out of style. It is in fact, timeless. Not trendy, nor tacky. It works in every season.

4. Once you go black, you never go back? It looks great on every skin tone. Image5. There’s NEVER a reason to not wear black.  Black is always kind-of dressy. Image

6. There’s a reason why love is deep.

7. I’ve never met another color that has as many emotions as black does. It can be anything you want it to be and it pulls it off every damn time.

 8. Black is punctual. It also means you never have to worry about matching. Anything.

 9. Black says: “Ooh, she means business.” Black makes anyone look mature.

10. Black also conveys a straightforward sense of being. Honesty is black. No grey areas here. Black & White for all of the right reasons.

11. Black camouflages any stains! Perfect for messy people like myself.

and for good luck ❤

* Black does not judge whether your clothes are expensive or cheap. *

I’ve been saying this all along

Life Looks Better in Black.

Essie Resort 2014: find me an oasis

Essie Resort 2014: find me an oasis

I’ve been searching for this color for what seems like forever. Essie, you never fail me! The Resort 2014 line has gorgeous hues – another favorite of mine is the beautiful coral peach “Resort Fling.”

Nail polish is one of my favorite beauty tools and I change mine every week no matter what. I try to keep a balance with my colors – basic, simple tones are perfect. Nudes & light pinks are a favorite of mine: Essie’s Spaghetti Strap, Essie’s Ballet Slippers. I also love a vampy purple or navy blue & of course, black.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I go crazy for bright, crazy blues & purples and greens – anything that’s pretty absurd to wear on nails for longer than 2 days. Which creates the necessary need to change polish colors. This very light blue is a clear and comfortable way to wear a blue nail while still being able to pull off the “light” basic hue. Perfect for this time of year and upcoming Spring. Great for work or play!

White Accessories

White Accessories

For the backpack loving type (not exactly me), I just LOVE bags. This Harper Ave. “Cyclades” white patent leather backpack was screaming out, “BUY MEEEE!!!” the moment I set eyes on it. This bag is perfect for so many occasions – so obviously, campus life – during like the last 3 weeks of your semester – or if you go to school in warm climate – still basically only spring. Also great for outdoor, daytime events like a baseball game in the Spring, or a picnic in the park, walking casually around NYC, strolling through the city sightseeing & looking for a darling lunch spot, or shopping boutiques because it leave your hands free from a purse. Options are endless with this little gem of a bag. Found it at Need Supply Co. (www.needsupply.com) – my favorite shop in Richmond, VA. Wish they existed in New York. Literally has the best of everything – both men’s & women’s clothing and accessories. This store sets the standard of dressing well.

White can be difficult to wear for many reasons – if you’re like me and spill coffee/crumbs/beets every time you eat/consume any sort of food. It gets generally “dirty” from the fact that I also toss my things around on the regular. It’s long frowned upon “not before Memorial Day, and not after Labor Day” rule which is so passé because white is year round. But even so – white things are crisp, they have dimension and sharp lines. White, like black should be a staple in your wardrobe because it’s a neutral. Neutrals rule the “color” palette. If you’re uncomfortable wearing white clothing, stick to white/ivory accessories because they can have a more lasting effect.

Natural & Subtle Pinks

My obsession with designer makeup with REAL. I got completely sucked into buying more things I don’t need at the makeup counter yet again. Shocking absolutely nobody. Thanks, NARS Soho. xo

I also did a drug-store make-up haul recently at Target, which I’ll post about later this week – product reviews and how they compare to the “real deal.”

Have been completely lusting over these new purchases though!

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in “Roman Holiday.” Also comes as a Sheer Lipstick. Perfect shade of light pink. Great for daytime use. Grade = A, love the coverage, great for layering with a sheer or pink hued lip gloss over top.

roman holiday

“The application of a lipstick combined with the convenience of a pencil in a jumbo crayon design. Lips are instantly saturated with rich pigments and a velvety matte finish. The long lasting, non-drying formula is enriched with emollients for a creamy texture, while a combination of unique silicones ensures long-lasting, seamless color for hours. Use for lining, all-over lip color, or pairing with another lip product.”

NARS The Multiple in “Riviera”

Beautiful color, adds just a little bit of color to the cheeks, even added above my eyes as referred by Maria, the makeup artist in the store. Grade: A+, incorporated this into everyday wear.

nars

“François Nars’ iconic innovation, the original multi-purpose stick for eyes, cheeks, lips and body. Its unique creamy formula and sheer color blends effortlessly to create shimmering accents, contours or dynamic highlights on all skin tones. Apply with fingers: the skin’s warmth allows for perfect blending.”

Essie “Spaghetti Strap”

Grade: A. This is a fabulous pink shade for your neutral nails. Great for any time of year. Perfect if your job doesn’t allow you to have bright colored nails, very subtle shade. Great look for interviews and it’s great for long-wear because you never see chips on neutrals like this.

essie spaghetti strap

“hot summer nights call for a breezy dress, strappy sandals and lovely, sheer pink peony nails. romantic manicures and perfect pedicures begin with this delicately hued nail lacquer.”
