So, psychos like me who got their hands on Kylie Jenner’s lip kit…what do you think?

Kylie surprise-launched the lip liner and lip gloss combo on Cyber Monday. Even with only alluding to the launch of the website a few days before, the products sold out within seconds. The 3 shades she launched are all within a nude palette and go by: Candy K, Dolce K, and True Brown K. The photos on their IG make all the shades look beautiful on many different skin tones and people.

When the product restocked a few weeks later on Monday, December 14th, I knew I had to give it my best shot. I failed at ordering on Cyber Monday -sold out too quickly! With my credit card ready to be entered and 3 browsers open on my side-by-side computer screens at work, I waited for for the clock to strike 12:00PM (EST).

Amped up and excited, I somehow, thank god (again, psycho) got this product in my cart and was able to checkout. Best. Day. Ever!!! I purchased the “Candy K” which is the lightest / pinkest of all the nude shades currently offered. That I NEEDED.

Then I waited… and waited… for what felt like an eternity. I finally received the USPS package about 1.5 weeks later. It actually took me awhile to decide if I was going to try it or sell it since the kits were selling on eBay and other sites for upwards of $100. I obvi kept it, because I was too obsessed to NOT.

Here are my thoughts on the Candy K as of today:

Packaging is good, cute (yet controversial) graphics and overall aesthetically pleasing.

Shipping is a #shitshow.

The lip liner: the pencil is medium length and looks like it’s a good quality. It has a pointed tip right out of the package and is actually a perfect texture/consistency. Soft on application but stays firm so that you can easily draw your line or shade in. The lines apply very easily and the color is great and allows for being able to easily fix your mess-ups.

The lip gloss: surprised me. It is matte – I LOVE this. It’s my first time experiencing any type of matte lip gloss on myself. Keep that in mind that I have literally nothing to really hold it up to or compare it to. The scent is absolutely atrocious. It’s not a bad smell specifically, but definitely smells of something some females would refer to as “baby prostitutes.” It’s like a really strong vanilla or candy store smelling scent.

The makeup wand applies the product well with a few swipes across the lips. It goes on wet and begins to instantly “dry” or “matte-ify” upon adhering to the lips. It leaves a dry, almost powdery looking finish. It feels dry, but when you rub your lips together, it’s sort of more “rough” or it will stick a bit? Stick… isn’t the right word. It’s obviously not glossy or sticky or wet, it’s not like sandpaper and does not crumble off your lips by any means either. It’s kind of a sensation to get used to, but I imagine it is how all matte lip glosses feel on the lips. I’m into it.

#NOFILTER…so you can see the shade better

Wearing this is an instant confidence booster – I received several compliments on the Candy K lip kit within the first week of wearing. (I wore it every day for a little while). It’s priced at $29 plus tax and shipping (still not in stock though!). I really like it and I’m excited to see all the new colors that are coming out this year. Kylie teased a palette on her Snapchat using the black & white filter (obvi to not give it away) and later featured a bright pretty pink that will be coming out for Valentine’s Day apparently. Which means it MUST be launching soon… stay tuned!

Disclosure: I’m legit obsessed with Kylie Jenner so my opinions are likely, somehow biased <3

Henna Lipstick?

Henna lipstick is so chic right now. Henna?! Like the stuff that’s drawn on hands and arms? Yes. Well, kinda. I’ll explain… AND it RULES!

Very cheap looking green packaging. Not impressed.
Very cheap looking green packaging. Not impressed.

Unimpressed by the packaging, looks extremely “made in China” …

Green inside? OK, I'm intrigued... Let's see if this stuff really works...

But the green inside? It makes me very intrigued and I cannot wait to try it on!

The lip balm reacts to your body’s natural PH and temperature. So each wearer will experience a slightly different hue of pink. On some it can look pink, others more red, and I dig that. Your own personalized lip color – like NO other. Special, of course!

Goes on clear… Not green! As seen in the pictures. The photos speak 100% for themselves…

I did a half lip test so see if you could immediately tell the difference and you totally can! This is instantaneous BTW – no waiting time at all. And if you apply more, the color appears richer. And for the first approximately 10 minutes I think the color gets better and better!

So does it last for a really long time? Yes, but no. Further experimentation by my fabulous roommate @elizsawicki and I… I would say you’ll get in a good 12 hours of color. It will fade over time but not like lipstick does. It goes on your lips like any lip balm would and in my opinion it moistens and nourishes like a lip balm would as well.

It kisses pink too! Like if you kiss a piece of paper… it’s pink! This is the eBay link I purchased mine from.

Update!!! One of my favorite lipstick brands, {Lipstick Queen} has released “Frog Prince” – aka HIGH QUALITY & AMAZING magic lipstick! Go there, duh.

Before & After Comparison

Lavender Overtones!

If you haven’t noticed – I’m mildly obsessed with lipstick and lip gloss and lip color and lip care and all things lip related.

Wandering around Soho often enough, I tend to walk into way too many shops. The NARS boutique at Wooster & Prince Streets is one of my favorite places to hide out and test new makeup shades. Every time I enter the shop, I’m guaranteed to have a high-quality experience. The makeup artists there are super helpful and I truly trust their opinions.

So I’ve been on the search for nudes. 😉

I’ve tried a bunch from NARS lately: Barbara. Tolede. My newest shade I’ve settled on is: Pigalle. And not only am I “settled,” but I’m also in love. <3 The makeup artist that helped me this time could tell I was weary – looked a little too dark for what I was going for…although my main concern when I came in was that I didn’t want anything too light in fear that it would make me look “washed out” and that you wouldn’t be able to tell where my lips ended and where my face began.

She pulled Pigalle right away and pulled a few other shades for good measure. After applying Pigalle, she basically demanded that I MUST wear it with a Lavender gloss on top because it just “ALWAYS DOES THE RIGHT THING.”

She offered up “Born This Way,” and applied it for me. And it looks FUCKING awesome. It takes a nude lipstick to a new level. She instructed to only apply it in the middle of your lips – no need to go to the edges, smudge your lips and you’ll be good. Lavender lip gloss has literally changed my life. I’m applying it over every nude shade of lipstick I have (I mean, LOTS). And she’s right every time… It literally, “DOES THE RIGHT THING!” No matter what.

So yeah, NARS addict always <3

Head Shots – Bang

Tremendous thanks & shout out to Bellport Web Solutions! Had a blast shooting with my girl Alexandria (@alexyadig – follow her, she’s adorable) and Dan the owner/photographer & of course, our “props.”

Alex invited me a few hours before & tells me, “You’ve got one job, Ash – bring props.” Don’t tempt me with a good time! Fruit hats. Bananas. Stella Artois. TMG Flower Halos. Funky sunglasses. Done & done. Our experience with Dan was fantastic – his studio space is great & his two French Bulldogs rule!

SO, as if you guys needed more of a reason to think Alex and I were legit in love with each other, here’s another one! We look like we’re sisters posing for family portraits as a gift to our parents for their 40th wedding anniversary. With that being said, I F-ING LOVE IT. Red lips are my favorite and this photo is my absolute favorite. Alex is wearing Hourglass lipstick in “Icon.” I’m wearing Chanel lipstick in “Passion.”

As always – the fruit hat NEVER FAILS.

Stunning in That Madonna Girl “The Dani” halo.

Best You’ll Ever Have…

When somebody reveals that I’m about to indulge in/experience/be a part of the BEST _______________ I’ll EVER have, I’m instantly eager, giddy with excitement & occasionally overwhelmed.

I’ve been told that I tend to overreact?! ME?! Heavens, no. I’m super chill and down to earth. HA. Whether overreacting in a negative tone or a positive tone, I’m 100% guilty. I’ve been ‘caught red handed’ style guilty of telling people that this pizza they’re about to experience is the. best. pizza…………… in the world, the best lipstick they’ve ever tried, the most amazing to-die-for cookie that they’ll ever eat. Dramatic, yes. Truthful, also yes.

I have an overindulgent personality. And I have a… see it, want it, need it, obsessive compulsive personality too. Damn – I’m really portraying myself out to be a raging psychopath, huh? Well I consider myself extremely lucky to have experienced “the best” of many things. The best of anything is completely relative. I’m extremely biased. But I go to far lengths to experience “bests” and I’m going to take pride in that because it’s what I love. Judgmental, much? You betcha!

Over the next few months I’m going to continue to share with you my favorite “BESTS” of many categories. Let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see more of or if you have any questions that you’d like me to explore.

drakeHe knows EXACTLY what I’m talking about.

Natural & Subtle Pinks

My obsession with designer makeup with REAL. I got completely sucked into buying more things I don’t need at the makeup counter yet again. Shocking absolutely nobody. Thanks, NARS Soho. xo

I also did a drug-store make-up haul recently at Target, which I’ll post about later this week – product reviews and how they compare to the “real deal.”

Have been completely lusting over these new purchases though!

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in “Roman Holiday.” Also comes as a Sheer Lipstick. Perfect shade of light pink. Great for daytime use. Grade = A, love the coverage, great for layering with a sheer or pink hued lip gloss over top.

roman holiday

“The application of a lipstick combined with the convenience of a pencil in a jumbo crayon design. Lips are instantly saturated with rich pigments and a velvety matte finish. The long lasting, non-drying formula is enriched with emollients for a creamy texture, while a combination of unique silicones ensures long-lasting, seamless color for hours. Use for lining, all-over lip color, or pairing with another lip product.”

NARS The Multiple in “Riviera”

Beautiful color, adds just a little bit of color to the cheeks, even added above my eyes as referred by Maria, the makeup artist in the store. Grade: A+, incorporated this into everyday wear.

“François Nars’ iconic innovation, the original multi-purpose stick for eyes, cheeks, lips and body. Its unique creamy formula and sheer color blends effortlessly to create shimmering accents, contours or dynamic highlights on all skin tones. Apply with fingers: the skin’s warmth allows for perfect blending.”

Essie “Spaghetti Strap”

Grade: A. This is a fabulous pink shade for your neutral nails. Great for any time of year. Perfect if your job doesn’t allow you to have bright colored nails, very subtle shade. Great look for interviews and it’s great for long-wear because you never see chips on neutrals like this.

“hot summer nights call for a breezy dress, strappy sandals and lovely, sheer pink peony nails. romantic manicures and perfect pedicures begin with this delicately hued nail lacquer.”

Simple, natural nails & lips. Great for Spring 2014 for “to the office” chic or weekend afternoons.

Quality VERSUS Quantity. Get much less, way BETTER shit.

#QuarterLifeCrisis – I’m going to be a very lonely person with a lot of really nice shit.

“Quality is never an accident, it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.”  – William A. Foster

When I try to explain to people how I can go ahead and spend  $49.00 plus tax for a lipstick, they are typically shocked and/or appalled by my behavior. But, what they don’t know is that it’s made by Tom Ford. C’mon. American designer, Tom Ford’s beauty line is beyond amazing. Nude Vanille is to die for. It is the PERFECT shade of nude. I’m telling you – try it – you will NOT be sorry. And if you absolutely hate it – go to the beauty counter and return it. Because it’s good shit – if you’re really that disappointed and really that sad that you spent your $49 on it, they take that AMAZING shit back.

“Rare and exotic ingredients including soja seed extract, Brazilian murumuru butter and chamomilla flower oil create an ultra-creamy texture with an incredibly smooth application. Specially treated color pigments are blended to deliver pure color with just the right balance of luminosity.”

I am 100% the type of person who would rather have very few items that are absolutely amazing and that I am obsessed with than have about 32 items that are just OK and I wouldn’t mind if I never saw it again and HECK, I probably already lost it and don’t even recall where.

This post sounds pretentious. I should start over.

My name is Ashley and I’m a really authentic person. I like to stay true and authentic to how I feel, what I believe in and what I want. I love myself and my choices. I love nice things. I would rather have nice shit than shitty shit. If the general public becomes obsessed about something, I’m already over it. So when I’m all alone for my mid-life crisis, at least my lipstick will be fucking awesome.
