Wowder! By Glossier

My go-to beauty brand, Glossier just launched Wowder! Not a powder.

It’s not your ordinary setting powder. Leaves no white-cast and is offered in 3 sheer shades. I’m a Glossier rep, and was gifted the Light/Medium shade. I’m a huge fan of a setting powder even though I haven’t used one in over a year.

STORYTIME!

I fell in love with a setting powder called Moonshot by a Korean beauty brand that discontinued making it. Originally published in Emily Weiss’ Top Shelf, I became hooked after trying it. I ordered 2 and used them like they were going out of style. Once I ran out, I freaked out after not being able to find more. 😦 Nothing available on the black market (eBay).

In early May I talked to Emily Weiss about my troubles and not being able to find any replacements.  Her reply was “I got you.”

Lo and behold, “she got me!” This is that powder. But nicer because it’s available in more shades! I’m obsessed. This does everything I want it to do. I use it on day where I don’t want that glossy look. When I’m over looking shiny.

It looks amazing in photos! So you don’t look shiny or have a flash on your face. But also doesn’t make you look cakey either! Complete game changer.

Love taking photos of Glossier products because they’re beautiful! 😍

Glossier Haloscope

Glossier launched a new product – it’s a dew effect highlighter. It’s perfect for summer. I’ve been wearing it nonstop since I received my overnight shipment last week. It’s basically the best thing since matte lipsticks came out (lookin’ at you Kylie). Anyway, this product is the exact opposite of matte. Even though I hate the word, it’s totally moist (ew, sorry) and leaves the most beautiful bit of brightness on your skin.

The highlighter is called Haloscope and it comes in two shades! Quartz is a pinkish, pearl color and Topaz is a sun-kissed golden so you can be a bronzed goddess. Super low-maintenance vibes and easy to apply with a simple swipe and dabbing it in with your fingers. It’s packaged as a stick which makes it great for the grab & go lifestyle. Step by step directions for places to highlight are noted in the photo below, courtesy of Glossier.

The oil-infused core is full of hydrating skincare ingredients, while its outer ring contains those crystal pigments that give skin a dewy effect. Highlighters have scared me in the past because I don’t want to look shiny. Glossier’s Halosope is way difffffff  and is much more natural looking. It gives a “wet” look that appears organic and as if it’s supposed to be there instead of like you’re in dire need of face wash.

I recommend both shades. I’ve used both, I like both and I don’t even have a favorite (and I always have favorites). You can either pick one to use or you can use both together. You can teach yourself to contour by highlighting – I don’t really know or care if this is what’s referred to as strobing, but if it is then it’s easier than it sounds. Swipe Quartz on top of your cheekbones like noted in the photograph above and then swipe Topaz right underneath. Swipe, swipe, check. (Similar to Tinder…lolz). The highlight contour gives you a skinny cheekbone that’s young, fresh, low maintenance and takes a fraction of the time of putting any real work into your makeup routine. WIN / WIN –  got that summertime sadness happiness! And if you’re really pale it gives you a bronzed cheek without actually applying bronzer or blush. Lastly, it isn’t orangey at all. All of the girls in the #GlossierSlackPack love it, even on super light skin tones. Trust. Slack Pack rules all.

Glossier screams #LazyGirlChic!

Summertime calls for lazy girl makeup. Plus your skin is usually more tan and you’re spending more time outside and likely require less makeup. Glossier provides the best options for lazy girl makeup because it’s simple, it’s easy, and it looks so much better than anything else!!!

Also skin usually clears up a little bit more in the summer (not sure if that’s really true… but I believe in it). And if you read it on the internet, it must be true. Could also be that I’m psycho, whatever. Def recommend Haloscope by Glossier – both colors, you won’t regret it. Check Glossier’s IG for a million amazing photos of Haloscope on different people.

Lavender Overtones!

If you haven’t noticed – I’m mildly obsessed with lipstick and lip gloss and lip color and lip care and all things lip related.

Wandering around Soho often enough, I tend to walk into way too many shops. The NARS boutique at Wooster & Prince Streets is one of my favorite places to hide out and test new makeup shades. Every time I enter the shop, I’m guaranteed to have a high-quality experience. The makeup artists there are super helpful and I truly trust their opinions.

So I’ve been on the search for nudes. 😉

I’ve tried a bunch from NARS lately: Barbara. Tolede. My newest shade I’ve settled on is: Pigalle. And not only am I “settled,” but I’m also in love. ❤ The makeup artist that helped me this time could tell I was weary – looked a little too dark for what I was going for…although my main concern when I came in was that I didn’t want anything too light in fear that it would make me look “washed out” and that you wouldn’t be able to tell where my lips ended and where my face began.

She pulled Pigalle right away and pulled a few other shades for good measure. After applying Pigalle, she basically demanded that I MUST wear it with a Lavender gloss on top because it just “ALWAYS DOES THE RIGHT THING.”

unnamed-9

She offered up “Born This Way,” and applied it for me. And it looks FUCKING awesome. It takes a nude lipstick to a new level. She instructed to only apply it in the middle of your lips – no need to go to the edges, smudge your lips and you’ll be good. Lavender lip gloss has literally changed my life. I’m applying it over every nude shade of lipstick I have (I mean, LOTS). And she’s right every time… It literally, “DOES THE RIGHT THING!” No matter what.

So yeah, NARS addict always ❤

What’s In My Bag? | Aruba 2015

What’s in my bag blogs always interest me, so I’m sharing some details. Life Looks Better In Black gives a glimpse into some overall big picture thoughts and opinions. As if I don’t share enough, now you can OD! Enjoy or don’t! Xx

LV Passport Case: essentials, duh.
9ft iPhone Charger: because when traveling, and especially in life — that regular length cord just does not cut it!
Snaaaaacks: betches get hungry, the bar I had in my pantry was Nature Valley Peanut Butter something, ehhhh.
Reading Material: How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are – I’ve read it before, great book so I’ll read it again. I learn new things every time I pick it up and it feeds my Parisian addiction.
LV Card Case: no need for a wallet on vacation. Store ID, credit cards, insurance cards, and cash. All the necessities without the extra weight!
Meds: vitamins and prescriptions, necessities you know.
Headphones: downloaded the Rosetta Stone app on my phone so I can take my French language course on the go! Great for when you’re bored in the airport. Also feeding aforementioned Parisian addiction.
Evian Facial Spray: miracle worker for flights, keeps you feeling refreshed!
Sunglasses: I usually travel with 2 pairs because of the sheer fact that I’ll likely lose a pair in the ocean. Or both. Yikes! Celine’s and Tom Ford this time, wish me luck. 😉
Moleskine Journal: I write a lot. I always have something that I want to remember but will likely forget. Also has a hardcopy calendar. I keep my Le Pen with it because I love the way it writes and you never know when you’ll need a well writing black pen.
LV Makeup Bag: great for storing all makeup and beauty products. Also doubles as a clutch for a dinner/night out at your destination.

Au Naturel

All natural. Hashtag no filter. Hashtag no makeup. Hashtag natural beauty. Makeup free Monday. Beauty from within. Fucking liars. In fact, I’ll go as far to say that nothing in a daily beauty look is really natural. All natural is the result of serious practice. Hard labor.

It takes one to know one. It takes work. If you’re not working now, I will LOVE to laugh at your gross lines and wrinkles 20 4 years from now. The best care is preventative care. Not reactive care.

Don’t wear too much makeup or try too hard. Wear makeup that makes it look like you’re not wearing makeup. Try to avoid the intense foundation, especially if you can see it. Use something so sheer or lighten it up by mixing with a moisturizer to make your own Bb cream. Avoid too many colors and avoid too major of bronzer. Mascara works wonders (Chanel Le Volume, trust).

Don’t blow dry your hair everyday and don’t color it so often. I’ve been victim to both of those things with overly drying results. Change takes time but you can change your hair [look and feeling] with a few simple regimen changes (like a hair mask).

Keep nails short and well manicured. This does not necessarily mean having polish on your manicured nails. I try to stick to nude tones, red tones or black tones – but in reality, my polish color choices have evolved over time and I still pick a bright crazy color on occasion. When you do have polish, keep it clean. I would rather see unpolished nails than ratchet half-polished or a 3 week old mani. Keep them clean as well, dirty nails are for 5 year old boys.

Take care of your hands, lotion up! And when you’re moisturizing your face, start from the bottom up! Moisturize the skin on your chest (décolletage) and neck. Move from the center of your face outward, in upward sweeping motions. Pull the skin upward, gravity pulls it down all day. Try to reverse effects of aging this way. Who knows if it actually works but — better than downward motion! AmIrite?

Under eye cream is a MUST. Start this now. Before you need it. So that when you really need it, you won’t really need it that bad.

The au natural look will get more and more chic with age. And it gets more and more easy with regard to time and confidence. You’ll feel more confident in your skin and going natural when you wear less makeup to begin with. Work hard.

Clear Skin Please?! RMS Beauty Oil

Skincare is important because faces are noticed first – LE DUH!

Midway through my twenties (AHHH, I know!…calm down.. breathe) I’ve noticed that my skin is changing a bit. I’ve been recommended to try face oils instead of my typical face creams as moisturizers.

Oil products contain essential fatty acids that skin needs to stay hydrated. Oil also acts as a barrier, protecting against extreme temps (sunshine – for all of us sunbathers), dry climates & over-cleansing.

If you couldn’t already tell, I have a ridiculous obsession with skincare and beauty products. RMS Beauty has a TO-DIE-FOR beauty oil that after receiving a sample of – I ABSOLUTELY NEEDED. OBVI.

rms beauty oil

Here’s a little FYI about your face & oil. Skin oil is MUCH DIFFERENT than plant oils! RMS Beauty Oil bridges the gap between the two. SORRY THIS IS BORING, but I’ll give you a quick 411. When your oil content isn’t balanced, your skin starts pumping out sebum (basically it’s stuff that clogs pores & causes breakouts). Eww. SOOOO – when you cleanse your face a million times because you have breakouts, you’re stripping your skin’s natural oils. Your skin reacts by producing more oil to compensate for what’s been lost. That sucks, huh?! But it makes sense.

A quality face oil like RMS Beauty Oil will replenish your skin with essential fatty acids & moisture! Win. When the oil balance is back in check, those overactive sebaceous glands (yeah that’s a freakin’ weird word and no, I didn’t make it up) can take a break & your skin will get healthier and definitely clearer.

The RMS beauty oil is a higher end oil – and as with most all of my opinions – quality is worth paying a higher price for. At $74.00 per bottle (I used a 20% off coupon code for Earth Day!), this oil is providing you with everything that your skin needs. All organically & naturally. AND IT’S LIGHTWEIGHT. You’ll only need about 3 drops to rub into your face (day & night), so your 30 mL bottle will go a long way!

Parisian Beauty Haul Part 2

Paris Beauty Haul Part Deux

Homeoplastine & Biafine

Before I went to Paris I thought it would be a good idea to go to a tanning salon so I wouldn’t look like I was translucent. POOR CHOICE, Ash. I think it was a mixture of me taking an antibiotic prescription the day before I tanned & the fact that I went on a run to the tanning place and sweaty… and just bad. Anyway, I got a heinous burn on my back.

Homeoplasmine & Biafine have saved my back in a few short days. Homeoplasmine is a oil or vaseline based and is great for minor cuts & burns. All of this stuff is prescription strength so it blows products like Neosporin out of the water. Biafine is a prescription strength cream – smells great and softens even the roughest of skin. Great on sunburns! And my back looks normal again. 😉IMG_9572

BioRecept Hydra’ Fluide

This moisturizer is meant for all skin types. It penetrates the skin quickly and doesn’t leave any thick residue which is a make or break for me! NO greasiness, yay! Skin is getting softer by the minute. I’m really only doing it for the #flawless #IWokeUpLikeThis Instagram selfie. duh! And a great price of €16,90.

Image

BioRecept Gommage de Peau

This is a masque & exfoliation product combo that also works as a cleanser. You can use this a few times a week or even every day if you feel it’s necessary. The exfoliation does not contain any hard particles so it’s completely soft and will not irritate skin. Great for acne prone skin.

 Lierac Anti-Blemish Mattifying Fluid

My absolute favorite moisturizer from my trip to Paris! The mattifying qualities in the moisturizer leave my skin feeling so super soft while still working super hard at battling any blemishes that I do have. Use after a cleanser day & night. I wish I would have purchased like 10 of these!

Klorane Makeup Remover Wipes

Was beyond excited to see these beautiful paraben-free, fragrance-free wipes in Paris! I use these regularly, from a boutique skincare place in Roslyn and spend over $20.00 on them. Talk about a huge bargain for me at ONLY €4! For me, anyways. I love the way they feel and they do a great job of removing any excess makeup after washing my face the 1st time. Great for the gym or at the end of night out.

Living Luminizer

There’s much to say about organic beauty products – like, they’re actually good for your skin! There’s also much to say about J.Crew…. And my obsession with it! J.Crew is featuring the “Signature J.Crew Model Glow” right now & basically, always.

These girls look effortlessly flawless – such clean, crisp and perfect faces. Just the right amount of dewiness to create a fresh look that will never go out of style. J.Crew reveals that their secret weapon to making these girls look this way — organic beauty line RMS Beautymore specifically – the “Living Luminizer.”

“the models look like they are lit from within.”

Rushed to J.Crew.com to find out that they were sold out of this glorious goop. Luckily the RMS Beauty website was in stock, shipped immediately and I had my luminizer within 2 days! Now that is quality service.

IMG_8910

Application – you’re going to want to only use a little bit! Apply with your fingers in a dabbing motion. It will feel a little thick or “dewy” at first. If you swipe it on, it will remove your foundation or other make-up. No swiping!

photo 5

photo 1 (1)You’re going to want to dab the luminizer over the cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, inner corners of your eyes, direct center of your eyelids and right above the “cupid’s bow” in the center of your lips.

Brighter! I love showing DIY beauty tips/tricks because it just feels so much more OK to see it done on a “normal” DEFINITELY NOT NORMAL person than to see it done on a more than gorge J.Crew model. I look exactly like the J.Crew models in the look book below, right?! This wears really well throughout the day as well and I highly recommend it!
